Shooting at Dallas airport as prisoner tries to escape

　　HOUSTON, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- A shooting happened at an airportin the U.S. city of Dallas on Friday when an inmate who was beingtransported tried to escape and got shot by an officer escortinghim.

　　The incident occurred Friday afternoon at Terminal C ofDallas-Fort Worth International Airport, according to the DallasMorning News.

　　The prisoner, who was being moved from Utah to Oklahoma and wasstaying at the Dallas airport for a layover, was escorted to arestroom where he assaulted the officer and was shot in one of hishands. The prisoner fled the restroom and tried to escape but wastackled by another officer waiting outside.

　　Both the prisoner and the first officer were sent to hospital.The officer suffered multiple injuries to his face and head,officials said.

　　Airport spokesman David Magana said the resulting investigationprompted the closure of the public area around the checkpointcounter near the site where the incident took place. No gates orflight operations were affected. No one else was injured.Enditem
