MEXICO CITY, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- A train hit a coach, leaving at least 16 people dead and 30 others wounded on Friday night near the Mexico-U.S. border, local authorities said.
The accident took place in the town of Anahuac, Mexico's northeastern Nuevo Leon State, at 18:40 p.m. Friday (GMT 0040 Saturday).
Jorge Camacho Rincon, head of the local state Civil Protection Department, told reporters that the injured have been sent to two area hospitals.
Jorge Ovidio Mendoza, another local official, explained that the coach's driver was trying to cross the railway regardless of an incoming train.
There were 60 people aboard the bus, exceeding its capacity, he added.
Mexican army and local police rushed to the site after the incident.
