YICHANG, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- China's Three Gorges project hasseen stable growth in throughput with over 10 million tonnes inJanuary, up 13 percent from the same period last year, the ThreeGorges Navigation Administration said on Monday.
The project's busy five-tier ship dock saw the passage of 4,324vessels in January, the administration said.
In 2014, the throughput of the Three Gorges Dam, the world'slargest hydropower project, reached a record high of 119 milliontonnes with the passage of 44,458 vessels, up 12 percent year onyear.
The Three Gorges Power Plant generated 98.8 billionkilowatt-hours of electricity last year, beating the world recordfor hydropower generation set by Brazil's Itaipu hydroelectricplant, the China Three Gorges Corporation said.
The project is a multi-functional water control systemconsisting of a 2,309-meter-long and 185-meter-high dam, afive-tier ship lock and 26 hydropower turbo-generators.
The project generates electricity, controls floods by storingexcess water and helps regulate the river's shipping capacity.Enditem
