TOKYO -- Tokyo shares ended higher Thursday with its benchmark Nikkei index closing at a fresh near 15-year high on news saying Japan's public servant pension fund will boost investment in domestic stocks.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average jumped 200.59 points, or 1.08 percent, higher from Wednesday at 18,785.79, its highest closing level since April 2000.
The turnover was about 2,508.9 billion yen (about 21.09 billion U.S. dollars).

BEIJING -- Chinese stocks ended higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 2.18 percent to finish at 3,299.14 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index advanced 1.83 percent to close at11,750.78 points.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.19 percent to end at 1,880.39 points.
